Nuvopoll did not begin as an idea for survey software.
How Nuvopoll started | Our story.
It began with a research question: what do two communities think of each other, and can the distance between them be measured?
The tools of the time were not enough. Nuvopoll grew by building what was missing wherever those tools fell short.
How did it start?
The question: The Othering Index
A methodology was designed within the Vicdan Foundation to measure mutual perceptions between two communities. Both would answer symmetrical questions about each other, and the delta would reveal the distance.
First application · 2024 · Before Nuvopoll
Two forms, two tables, manual calculation. The first study examined Turkish and Syrian communities. In Google Forms, the only path was two separate surveys. Data was combined in Excel with formula-by-formula calculation across 193 Turkish and 20 Syrian respondents.
Second application · July 2025
One survey, one table. The second application on Turks and Kurds was run in Nuvopoll. One survey was enough: participants marked belonging, 30 items dynamically piped the counterpart's name, and 613 respondents answered (516 writing open answers). Published in 2026 as 'The Distance Between Us'.
What we learned along the way
The questionnaire evolved while research stayed coherent. Live survey results learned to merge multi-wave data cleanly into one living dashboard.
The boundary we encountered
A web link only reaches the researcher's circle: three quarters were male, three quarters university graduates, only ten aged 18–25. That exact discovery led to the development of our field research software.
Today
The friction of that first study is gone. Today, we run multilingual studies under one roof: separate links per language, unified data tables, and instant live reports.
“This report does not speak on behalf of Turks and Kurds; it tells what these 613 people said.”
That sentence embodies the core belief behind Nuvopoll: a result is worth something when it can show how it was produced, and on whom it rests.
Data protection was built in from day one.

Founder of Nuvopoll. Author of the theoretical framework, model, and research reports for the Othering Index.
“While tying two surveys, two tables, and a set of Excel formulas together by hand in the first application of the Othering Index, I noticed something: a researcher's time was going into filling the gaps between tools, not into thinking about the question. Nuvopoll set out to close those gaps. In every new study we found another gap and closed that too. We will find the next one in the field.”Read our data protection commitments →
